The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens are located in Hobart, Tasmania's harbour side capital city. Established in 1818 on the western banks of the Derwent River, the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens covers 13.5 hectares and showcases 6,500 species and varieties of plants, including over 400 Tasmanian species. You can take a guided tour to see features including the largest public conifer collection in the southern hemisphere, a peaceful Japanese garden and stunning conservatory. Breathe in the perfume of the traditional herb garden and visit Pete's Patch - a vegetable plot designed by Tasmanian gardening personality Peter Cundall. See rare plants from Macquarie Island in the sub-Antarctic plant house and stroll along historic Arthur Wall - designed to be internally heated to grow exotic plants in Tasmania's cool climate. The Gardens also has a seasonal display of annuals, including a breathtaking spring tulip display - focus of the yearly Tasmanian Tulip Festival. You'll find interactive displays of Tasmania's diverse flora in the Botanical Discovery Centre and a permanent collection of work by Tasmania's most famous wilderness photographer in the Peter Dombrovskis Gallery.
